Post subject:  Three Masted Schooner Project
A slight departure from Great Lakes ships that I normally draw, but it was time to do this project that I have been wanting to do for a few years now. In my family history there was a fleet of 7 wooden schooners built in the town my father grew up, Belliveau Cove, Nova Scotia. Below you see one of them, the Emma Belliveau (1916-1920). I also created an entire website about these ships with pictures and history, if you have the time please take a look.

Just for curiosity: why you draw her with the bow on left?

Hi Lazer One, Thanks! Most of the ships I've drawn are showing the starboard side, bow on the right, basically because most of the shipyard blueprints I obtain are that way. (The exception being the ships that were built by Toledo Shipbuilding, for some reason they drew thier blueprints showing the port side, bow left - ie. Chief Wawatam, and Reiss Brothers.) With this schooner I had that choice to make. There are no blueprints to reference, but I do have a half-hull model that was carved by one of the ship-wrights back then, bow left, I used this for the basic shape the to look at how the light and shadow played for the shading of the hull. I also have drawings my uncle drew some time back detailing schooner construction, also showing the port side and most of my reference pictures of the actual ships of this era seemed to be from the port side. So I simply fealt it would be logical for me to depict her that way.
