faster speed is possible, but the reset rate would be based on the recharge time of the required energy. in this case, I see more drawbacks then possibilities in your suggestion.

I'm currently working on it in Paint, for the most part to strengthen and reinforce the structure of it, of course to do that it might help somewhat to have a good idea of where more supports should be placed, as well as what sections can be broadened and lengthened?

Actualy I think the biggest problem is going to dissipating the heat generated when the gun is fired.

There should be a docking port for a repair teams and reloading.

More solar panels and RCS thrusters (that I can see) would be nice.

I would like to see that "space cruiser" page? thing.

@Thiel: space is near absolute zero so cooling is not an issue that much.

cooling is very much an issue apdaf. the heat generated by these systems is immense! I have no time to give you examples or prove it, so you just have to take that from us.

WOW... I have never seen anyone fail high school physics this badly.

It is very difficult to get rid of heat in space, as it can only radiate, it cannot conduct or convect. Even though space is very cold, something building up heat will retain it for a very long time, unless it is particularly good at radiating heat.
This is why the ISS has massive banks of heat sinks.

stupid boy.

Also, APDAF, do you know how small RCS's are? they fit in the nose cone of the shuttle. You cant see them there. Why would you see them at this scale.

The best cooling system in space is a large sail like fin, such as is mounted on the P1 and S1 trusses of the ISS. They can be retracted, but you just feed heat into them constantly.
In fact you already have what looks like 4, on the structures supporting the CommSat dishes.

Yeah, although I believe I may need to include more of them though, considering the heat that this might generate.

Perhaps lining them up along the barrel?

:headdesk:

Most of this coilgun is vented into space and unlike the ISS it has not got a crew.
The solar panels should have radiators built-in.
