Hi all,

Just a little design I developed after seeing a fellow newcomer's NATO-style Fast Attack craft. It got the gears turning in my head, and this was the outcome. There's a clear lack of shading, but I wanted to stop putting this off and just get it out there for review from those more skilled than I. I await any and all criticism.

Credit goes to CorranHorn for both inspiration and general hull shape, and reytuerto for the design of the command deck.

This is a lot of weight on such a small hull - I don't remember seeing 2 x 76mm, 12 Harpoons and RAM launcher on top of it on a hull just some 60 meters long.
(Shape of the superstructure in the aft area also looks bit strange IMHO)

I tried making a "universal combatant" ship that can fight in both blue and green water without much difficulty, although looking back the number of Harpoons is a bit too much, I could stand to lose one of the quadpacks without sacrificing too much hitting power.

Its's enough with 2*quad packs harpoon launcher, 1 76 mm gun, but for a ship this size a 56 mm is best, and it would function best in both role, space for more ammunition, due to size of the ammunition, etc.

carrying thousand weapons system, doesn't make a war-ship powerful, that it can use it to it full potential without problem make a warship powerful.

closest I could find as an example:

Braunschweig class corvette, 80 meter long

another example is an Norwegian Skjold class (although it's used to hunt and kill other surface ships, but can transport special forces):

or a the Swedish corvette:

I'll make some serious changes to it once I get back to my computer, thanks for the feedback!

I think it is not so over the top as said here, although it is certainly no OPV anymore!

anyways, an example of a ship with an weapon load almost as big, which is slightly smaller...... http://www.old.shipbucket.com/images.ph ... batros.png

That said, that ship has sacrificed almost every aspect of it's design for speed and firepower. an corvette should be able to do more then just fire the weapons, there must also be a crew on board for some time, she has to have fuel and stores to have range and has to be able to operate in heavier weather.

Perhaps as a method of reducing the stress on the hull, and also to reduce the excessive weapon count, I could make specialized variants, some made for AAW, others for ASuW in a manner similar to fighter escort for bombers. Also, depending on the depth requirements I may switch to VLS-launched LRASMs instead of the Harpoons, or some (for AU purposes) original-concept missiles.

Updated version after the feedback, the versatility of Melara's 76 (with Strales) and my reading somewhere on this forum that the best CIWS on a light vessel like this is the handling, the RAM launcher is gone, as is one of the 76s. Also gone are the harpoons, instead replaced with Tomahawk ABLs, because I couldn't find any way to really fit Mk 41s without interfering with waterline space I wanted to use for engineering spaces and accommodations. So here's the second take, with eight To

One little issue: one ABL weighs about 26 tons, compared to about 6 for a harpoon launcher. total weapons weight of a ship like this is often about 2-3% of the total weight of the vessel, which would make your ship twice the size of the göteborg class posted as reference above, just to carry one ABL.

In other words, look up what other ships have or will use, and use that as a base.

Here it is, with an armament similar to Germany's proposed Type 130 corvettes, and the CIWS role is filled by Strales-equipped 76 SRs. The vessel is meant to act as the mainstay of a largely coastal-oriented defensive fleet, capable of both coastal bombardment and engagement of enemy vessels, as well as light-duty air defenses via the Strales system.
