Given the amount of time and effort most SB members tend to put in their works - and I mean AU/Personal Design works too - these two statements of yours are something of a contradiction. :twisted:

If that MLX-3 wouldn't capsize immediately upon launching, then it certainly would during first storm.
I suggest You start with reading about "centre of gravity".
Then, I suggest You read the contents of the (first two posts) in the thread I linked You in comments to previous design. And think hard why they appearance differ from Your designs.
I know You'd rather read other kinds of comment, but if asked "what's wrong with MLX-3", I'd have to answer: "almost everything" (underwater part of the hull is passable, more-or-less).

back to the drawing board again thanks for the tips and insults

The underwater hull was lifted directly from the older drawings of the Knox class frigates. It's a single-screw design with a non-standard arrangement of bilge keel and stabilization fin that I don't think you'd see on a modern warship.

By Helex's own admission on IRC, these parts were taken directly from the parts sheets (no foul there, but possibly best to research before using parts).

@Hexelarity
I tried to give You "constructive criticism" without "insults" in previous thread. But I haven't seen here anything that would suggest You even tried to think about these (other than use of colors) - and that made me feel insulted.
These designs, to be honest, look like a hull on which someone rather randomly stacked boxes with elements of equipment attached - equally randomly - to it.
Look in actual ships (and the drawings in the thread I linked previously) and think of the proportions of these. How tall are the superstructures relative to length. How tall tend to be masts?
General idea: to sail more or less properly ships need to have as much of their weight as low as possible/practical. Therefore their superstructures tend to be low (within practical limits of their purpose).

@Colosseum
Yeah, I recognized that underwater hull is copy-pasted, but wasn't sure if it was copied in one piece, or was bashed from two or more ships.

I'm not sure any insult was really intended; most newcomers to the site aren't aware of how much real, actual work goes into these drawings.

Anyway, I hope we haven't scared Helex off. I spoke to him on the IRC and Midnightnova and I gave him some advice on how to improve this ship (most of it covered above). Let's hope he can make the necessary changes and help him to get it all correct.

We were all new to this once.

with all due respecs, eswube, there is no reason to be that harsh on this new member. there are already some improvements in this new drawing other then the colour, and the basic layout of modern warships is there now, while there were a lot more issues with the previous one.
the dimensions and the systems are still of, yes, but apart from the exact use of the radars we have here an ship that could work by moving some stuff around.

2 hours is not a lot of time to spend on a shipbucket drawing, however I have in the past done ship designs fit for construction in 8 hours. I think everyone will agree with me that getting everything exactly right and researching if everything works takes most of the time involved in shipbucket drawings.
the guide eswube posted in the previous thread and the ships in the archive give a lot of information on how ships are laid out and shaped. however, the step every artist needs to master on their own is the how and why. the description eswube offers here (center of gravity as low as possible) is a benchmark, but only for submerged submarines entirely true :P

hexel, may I suggest you take an example ship (for example an real life destroyer or frigate, your current setup is not far off from the latest european ships except for the single propeller) and study their how and why? try to find out what kind of weapons, radars, propulsion etc they have and what effects those have on the ships size, speed, shape and setup. try drawing a real life ship to master this or draw your own version of the ship you studied earlier.

in addition, maybe best to stay away a bit from the old parts sheets section but instead look at the more recent parts sheets, those are labeled better, sorted better and more accurately drawn http://shipbucket.com/images.php?dir=Parts%20Sheets

Hi Hexel.
I am not an expert and also, I am not a veteran; my comments are about the general shape and aesthetics of your vessel.
1. It looks very massive and top heavy. Not Looks as a seawhorty ship (the metacentric height seems very high, do you remember the turret battleship HMS Captain?) specially for the lenght of the hull.
2. An odd visual shape: very modern superestructure, but a hull form (the sumerged part ofi it) directly derived from the american escorts of mid 1950s.
3. Single screwed ship? An odd solution for a modern combat vessel nowadays.
4. The two squared structures (funnel?) adds bulkyness to an already massive looking ship.
5. The upper Mast, weapons and helicopter looks fine!

Try to rework your ship slowly! Don`t count the hours or the days; if tired, left your drawing for tomorrow. The visual aid of an already drawn ship in SB scale helps a lot specially with the details, but also with the concept and general shape.

Finally, take advise of the veterans, even (or specially) the «bad cops» ones ;) , and the quality of your drawing will be better. Cheers.

It's an armed tug boat. I know another member here who loves putting weapons on little tug boats and using them for his AU.

I'm no expert...but are those SPY-1 panels you have mounted up there? Is this an Aegis ship? Or just a ship that randomly mounts American hardware but really isn't Aegis? And if so, why combine the Spy-1/2 with some random foreign radar immediately above it?

Is there any intent to actually model a ship that utilizes several different air/search radars in conjunction with eachother here?
