Hi there. Been a long-time lurker and after this while, decided to register and just show you my latest work.
It is the Yi Class Gunboat. I'm trying to achieve a Pre-WW1/WW1 look.
Am interested in hearing from you guys.

Can't comment on the vessel, but what a great first post! Welcome!

Agreed, a very fine first drawing.

drawing in it self is not bad, but compared to shipbucket standard, you have to many shading.

If you have an picture of the vessel, it would be nice if you could post it to.

and welcome to Shipbucket, there the real world crash with us, the artist!

Thank you guys.
No it's a fictional ship for a fictional nation, there's no reference other than my mind.
And how much shading is too much actually? Don't think I went overboard with it.

It looks good to me. I'd strip away upper deck and go for an open bridge. Not quite sure what's going on with the propeller though.

well, shipbucket has an shading standard. if it is more then you see on other drawings you see on this site (and on small craft, a lot less is often enough) it is most likely too much ;)
design wise, I am a bit wondering why the portholes forward and none aft (machinery aft and crew space forward?) and the anchor is too far back (the more forward, the better)
the railing looks also a bit low (no use if it comes just to your knees)
otherwise, it doesn't look too bad to me ;)

The portholes are only at the front because that is the only place the crew frequents. Machine room and storage room does not need portholes - Huangsheng philosophy.
I agree on the anchor, will bring that forward.
As for the railing, it indeed comes to the knees and thought that was more aesthetically pleasing.
The propeller... is ill. I will have to replace that one!

I am going for a Early 1900 'imperfect' feel though, and will not redo the railings I think, as safety standards were not as advanced as now back then.

Thank you for the feedback!

Redid the ship on points specified by people.
- Propeller no longer ill, functional
- Better anchor, placed more to the front
- Portholes lowered at front, extended in the middle

Welcome to the Shipbucket!
This is quite nice start, but I have some remarks - besides excessive shading and elements like rivets and railings, the propeller and rudder look very weird and I'm afraid that the superstructure is too low to be two deck high: You should count at least 12 pixels between the deck levels plus the thickness of decks themselves (floor/ceiling). I'd suggest a one level of superstructure plus open bridge, but of course it's Your choice.
Oh, and I think that the boat should be placed bit higher on a template which also should have shipbucket logo in the lower-right corner.
