My current Project is a sailing ship. I’ve got the hull, equipment, masts and stays sorted out. However, I’ve wasted all Sunday afternoon - a very rainy Sunday afternoon - trying to get the shrouds right :x. That is trying to get them "reasonably right" while still looking good .

The problem is that 5 shrouds, coming from a 17 pixels wide channel, join into a 4 pixel wide masthead, some 90 pixels above deck. Naturally there’s a big amount of congestion towards the masthead . To make matters worse I need an at least one pixel wide separation between each shroud to insert the ratlines .

I usually try to merge them together, so that instead of four lines at the masthead I only got two or even one to worry about.

Shrouds are pretty difficult, best advice I can give you other than what Thiel said is to use a dark grey instead of black for the shroud color.

That, or you could even use a light or darker brown for the lines if the specific ship uses rope. Darker shades can be uses to imply areas of connection or small rigging devices.

I think I’ve sorted it out now. It looks so simple once it is done. Thanks for your advice...
