Here is a WIP of the planned Province Class DDG. As Prairie Canuck pointed out it is a basic lengthened Halifax for VLS. So I checked into it further and decided to modify the Halifax FLEX I did previously. The pictures are from the 2006 design.

I am having troubles on identifying the ADAR system on it though.

this page http://www.hazegray.org/navhist/canada/ ... /futurddg/ seems to say that the apar would be fitted, along with the smart-l. the apar would be fitted in an new mast. it also has an sideview on top of the page. the gun looks like an american based design, IMO.

a little note: the ship won't be build like this if the intel on the site above is correct.

From what I get from the article and the reason for the design of the more recent Halifax FLEX refit, is that the newer ship will be a larger version of the Halifax with variations of the FLEX equipment. The newer FLEX is designed to be a intermediary step towards the Province because it doesn't look like the Province will be here for at least ten years according to some reports.

what I got from the article, and from the age of the renders (seeming to be made in the DOS time era.... oh god look at that bow wave!) this ship will never be build. there are also large doubts about the top weight of the ship when apar and smart-l would be on board. it is an interesting sb project, though, but I think you can't say these ships are 'planned' anymore.

Actually, the vessel is still being planned for 2016. All the information that I am getting is that it will be a near-identical hull to the Halifax Class and lengthened.

The Province Class concept died on the drawing board and will never see the light of day. When a replacement comes along it will be either an all new design or more likely a Canadianized version of someone else's new design. (see new Dutch, German, and Danish designs, the key in my opinion is APAR, as the Canadian government is an investor in it's development)

There is some talk of naming the future AAW after Provinces but there is more more "political" appeal to continue naming them after first people's nations. (Naming the class: Iroquois, Athabaskan, Algonquin, and the late great Huron)
