Hello friend. For now we will have a little trouble saying what have you drawn. Undoubtedly it is not a ship. ;) Lets start with basic, here is a couple of important links:

http://shipbucket.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16
http://shipbucket.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3242
http://www.shipbucket.com/images.php?dir=Parts Sheets

You need to use a proper template with proper fonts ect: all of this you can find in that links.
Then we will start from scratch with: "Why that brick have battleship turrets and ... "

But above all, welcome on Shipbucket forum.

You right, Arial 14 is standard font but I think you copy from Word name and as you can see it don't look good. The most easy way to make them good is using existing names from other designs.

Here you have a wonderful ship from one of our most talented shipbucketer. You can copy whole name from it. ;)

I'll give you a start list "basic" (here can other people on this forum fill in more info):

- WW2 weapons and radar from 60's and beyond.
- hull to small for weapons, and the hull has a similar layout as a WW1 ship.
- DD stands for destroyer when you have weapons from battleship (BB)

- when I write in paint I use 10 and 8. Ariel

Maybe I'm not tell the detail about my ship before. But, here we go:

1. WW2 weapons have a large firepower. I think it suit well for DD. About the radar, I don't know too much.
2. Right, it's WW1-style hull. But, why I choose WW1-style hull? Because it solid. It's revolutionary, I think.
3. Well, I'll corrected this one ASAP.
4. Thanks for the suggestion, friend ;)

Thestrategist - First of all, welcome to Shipbucket. :)
Unfortunately, the hull of Your ship is not WW1-style, and certainly not a destroyer-style. Perhaps a towed artillery barge, but not a destroyer.
The weapons You used do not suit well the DD-sized warship, because they are intended for much larger ships: two of them for a battleship and one at least for a heavy cruiser.
As for the fonts, I use 10 (for the title) and 8 (for my nickname). I guess that it would be good if site admins change (update or perhaps make more precise) it in the tutorials.

Generally, I would suggest that You:
1) decide from which era Your ship is supposed to be (WW1, between the wars, WW2, early Cold War, late Cold War, modern),
2) find some drawings of other ships from that era,
3) note their general features: size, hull shape, superstructures, masts, armament, radars and sonars etc., funnels, screws, lifeboats etc.
4) try to do something roughly similar,
4a) remember, that if You use large parts from someone else's drawing (like whole hull, or large parts of superstructure for example), You would have to credit that someone as co-author. That does not apply to parts taken from Parts Sheets (like guns, armament, equipment etc.).

Also, generally I would say, that it would be even more practical if for the beginning You would rather try to draw some historical ship instead (maybe even several of them - and not too large - better don't start with battleships or carriers - I'd say that corvette-sized ship would be ok), not an own design - but that is Your choice, of course.
