SS ROVER Central Gulf Lines Turbine Steamer Built:1969 by Litton Ingalls,Ship Design: C5-S-78a Location of yard: Pascagoula East Yard No: 1157 Date of completion: 28.4.69 Type: Container/RORO Tons: 11757 : DWT: 15946 Length overall: 183.4 LPP: 170.7 Beam: 27.5 Number of screws/Mchy/Speed(kn): 1/Steam Turbine/23.5 knots Flag: US Original Name: Mormacsea-70 Subsequent History: 71 DEFIANCE 82 AMERICAN ROVER 83 ROVER Broken Up Alang 21.6.93 One of four "Seabridge-class" cargo ships, built originally for Moore-McCormack Lines for service to the Baltic. Over the years she was operated by American Export Lines, Farrell Lines, U.S. Lines and, finally, Central Gulf Lines. This was an unusual cargo ship design in which, in my opinion, the designers tried to accomplish too much. She had refrigerated cargo holds, which could accommodate containers as well as break-bulk cargo. She had container cells as well as roll-on-roll-off ramps. One might well describe this ship as the proverbial "Jack of all trades and master of none". This is how she looked as ROVER, in 1990-91, when I was Second Mate on her. At that time she was operating under charter to the Military Sealift Command, transporting ammunition to the Persian Gulf. Although painted battleship-gray, her funnel still retained Central Gulf Lines' company colors. That caused some slight embarrassment when the ship arrived in South Korea to load U.S. military cargo, where the ROK Navy misidentified her as Red Chinese! |

I don't want to diminish your enthusiasm, but I'd encourage you to review the style guide and ensure you're moving towards that sort of drawing. There is a lot of work left to do here. |

I welcome you aboard, and as mentioned above there is still much to do to make it a proper SB drawing. I would also like to point out that the ships of MARAD designs are on my work list see here |
