My first drawing, i know it is lacking, but doing this pixel by pixel wore me out.

Few points,

1-that forwards gun is much too big for the ship
2-Not sure about that rear gun either
3-windows are a generally light blue
4-the waterline is generally defined by black lines as well
5- the mid launcher lookers like it will hit the radar, does it rotate or is it offset to one side?
6-no anchors or mooring gear yet, though you can add that when your finished
7- tiny point this one, but it makes it look really good-make sure the writing is aliased (no pixel haze)

otherwise Welcome :D

Good marks for the effort, but as it is the hull is way too small for the gun-mountings. The big turret in front is much too big, and will make the ship nose-dive in any sea. There is not enough hull depth for the gun turret mechanism and magazines.
The hull doesn't have enough freeboard, so this shipwill be only good for lakes or rivers, where there are no storms.
The after gun sitts on top of the propellers and again there is not enoug space for all the gun mechanism (hoists and magazine).
As for Shipbucket style, you'll need to change the color of the windows, add shading as per the SB rules. Also your ship lack life saving equipment, details such as anchors, mooring-bits and more.
other than that, a very warm welcome.

It's a nice neat and tidy drawing if you ignore it's design flaws.A good 1st attempt.

Hey!

What anime is your avatar from?

:-)

Good work with the drawing btw. Though I agree with Rodondo on the modifications you need to make.

I changed the hull to make it a bit more seaworthy, hope you don't mind!

@ jabba, a few things: that bow looks awful above the waterline, IMO even the original was better. also, we don't touch somebody's drawing without permission. NEVER!
@ rodondo: that 'laucher' is an ASW mortar. it can rotate if I'm correct, although I don't know why you would need them on a modern ship like this... at least, let me ask, what time era is this?
@ renji: I can see something good comming out of this. it has some beginners mistakes, but we all made similar ones when we started, and I like the overall design......
I would suggest though, to first try an real design. why? to learn shipbucket style drawing. you then see what everything does, how everthing works, etc. then you can finish this ship, and make the best of it!

Ah..okay, makes sense, I really don't know much about naval weaponry after 1946 so I was simply guessing

renjikuchiki: Once again I hope you don't mind that I have altered your drawing. If you would like me to leave it alone, or remove the drawing in my post please let me know. I like the design of your ship and for a first post it is more impressive than other original attempts (including mine). I agree with the other comments posted previously, and would also suggest posting a description of what the vessels mission would be, so as to give others a better idea of how to critique it and suggest improvements. And, like acelanceloet said, a year of building to help in selecting weapon/sensor outfits.

acelanceloet, a few things: The original may be better in your opinion, but is mine really awful? It's not the first drawing to have the bow shaped like this.

With regards to not touching someone else's drawing: I have done this before with another fairly new forum user, with no objection from the original artist or the rest of the Shipbucket community. In fact, so have you: http://shipbucket.com/forums/viewtopic. ... 3&start=10

I will ensure that next time I ask the original artists permission out of courtesy and to conform to SB practice/unwritten rules - I am still relatively new here myself . At risk of sounding petty, I consider writing in UPPER CASE to be 'shouting' at someone when using Internet chat/forums and don't feel it was necessary in this instance.

@ jabba: yes, you are quite right. this is sometimes done, by me for example (in that one case) to just show him how a real ship looks, because in words he didn't seem to get it. this was (IMO) not the case here, but you are right, my reaction was a bit too much. I appoligise.

for that bow: it is ok for most of it, but
- that curve is so extrem that you can't stand on it normally :P
- it looks real bad on this 'straight' ship.
and (IMHO) you learn more from doing things yourself then letting others do it for you ;)
