Not really an "entry" as such (my efforts aren't really competitive), but as this seemed like a fun challenge I decided to go ahead and draw up a design for an on-off (mostly off) AU project, the Samudran Federation. Due to time and skill constraints, it is a bit of a kitbash of Jabba's drawing of HMS Nelson and I'm not massively happy with some of the detailing (the rigging in particular- any guidance would be appreciated), but please bear with me as it is only the second drawing I've seen fit to present here.
A few brief comments on the design. Yes, it does exceed the 10k displacement limit and so in some respects is approaching a small battleship rather than a classic CDS. I've also prioritised armament (4x 13.5'/45 Mk Vs) and armour (12' main belt) over speed (supposedly 24 kts, but frankly I'm sceptical of this), as in my view the true role of the CDS is deterrence: the object of these ships isn't to dual with cruisers- let alone battleships- on the high seas, but rather to force a potential aggressor to risk larger and more expensive capital ships in defended coastal waters, where they are vulnerable to minefields, shore artillery and fast attack craft.
