And it is not absurd the Empire is at least 750-800 years old possibly a lot older as no one knows when it was founded but they have a good guess.

Remember the Empire is an AU and people would have grown up with this since birth.

And I know it would possibly not work very well in the real world.

And right here we have the difference between an "AU" like this thing, and something like Redhorse's Texan AU, or Voyager's California, or Kaetyverse.
