Why what is wrong?

An alien invasion, just generally, rarely makes sense.
Plus, you seem to be hacking things back so that your empire is awesome (tm) but then having an alien invasion means... they will lose. badly.

If you read the books then the aliens are confused as they think that is take 1000's of years to progress from a medieval to an industrialised age while we took a few century's.

Thus they came unprepared to enslave us.

If the aliens have the tech to get here they have the tech to kill us.

That Turtledove books are nice ... aliens have atomic weapons, jets and mega tanks. But nothing high tech, Star Trek stuff. Like ... hmmm ... Soviets of 80' attaking earth in 40'.
