could you give me the description of the book of those 'outriggers'? because right now, you have nothing that follows the regular definition of both pods nor outriggers :P

Yeah, those pods are going to create a LOT of drag. They need to be a lot more hydrodynamic than that to improve water flow over the propellers. I think that's the biggest of the many problems with this design.

ok

outrigger-like propulsor pods,
The Cunningham class destroyer utilized an integrated electrical drive. her main motors were carried in twin pylon mounted propulsor pods similar to the engines of a dirigible , there were no shaft alleys to flood,no boiler to explode, no reduction gears to strip, one just had to get the power from point a to point b

strait from the second book

I am wondering.... that explanation can be taken as regular azipods too. more logical too, as these create more drag then they are worth. also, try docking this thing with that setup. indeed, impossible. so if this ship is an monohull ship, just move the thrusters to the stern.

ah, forgot to mention this

because of her outrigger like propulsor pods and comparatively delicate RAM jacketing of her hull the big guided missile destroyer had to use Mediterranean moor, she was backed in between two piers, her airbag padded stern butted up against the break water and her folding gangway extending down shore side, a broad v of spring lines braced her in place and her anchor held her bow towards open water

I would assume that means that they jut out the side, however azipods would make more sense

wtf....
no. just no. the author has definitely not an single grasp of how ship design works. NONE at all. I mean, compared to this, the own-designed ships clancy or cussler sometimes use in their books are quite plausible -.- may I suggest finishing only the 'this would work' version of the ship? :P

look at real ships for all underwater parts (mostly in the archive)
but for this, prop forward. why? because then the prop moves water which is still in laminar stream = more effect.
