Umm, Catz, isn't that a little uncalled-for?

Sure, the design's got problems, but it's not an ugly little tug boat. As stated above, it's based off a Knox hull - probably not a good hull to use, but not a tugboat.

The AEGIS faces do need work (for reference, Hexel, you only need one face per side) but they're in use with the USN, the Japanese Navy, also the navies of Spain, Norway, the Republic of Korea. Australia is building some AEGIS ships too. And yes, you want them as high as you can get them, but they're heavy and affect the balance of the ship so you can't normally get them very high safely. There's not that much else to a radar fit once you're using AEGIS - the US Navy Burkes use a bunch of SPG-62 dish radars to for missile guidance and a surface search set, I think, but there's not much else. That said, electronics fit can be quite an involved business (just look at erik_t's most recent creation. Even with the diagram in front of me I still can't work out where all of the individual systems go...)

Regards,
Adam

The hull is pulled directly from this old sheet:

I haven't seen or used this sheet in probably 5 years. Very nostalgic to see it again.

I still use it extensively, although it's massively edited!

It would be fun to comb through and see how many of those parts are still part of best-practice usage. Just off the top of my head, the ASROC pepperbox launcher and SRBOC. Torpedo launchers, hatches, some of the RMS stuff, UNREP refueling gear, some SATCOM domes.

And then you see the SLQ-32 and start laughcryvomiting. We've learned a lot over the years.

it would be a fun project to actually make an updated one. leave out the parts represented in other part sheets, but add an good set of underwater hulls, propellers and other small equipment.

Ok After some work of the body and coloring here is the current MLX-4, for any suggestions just suggest and insult if you must. Still work in progress. I need advice where to put the radars. Current CIWS Will be Goalkeeper and there will be harpoon missles. Still deciding on main gun.

Stop talking about "insults".

What does "MLX" stand for?

The ship is an improvement. I can't really give you any more advice other than to just look at some modern ship drawings and use them to understand detailing and the like. Here's a link to one I did a while back (I'm no expert on modern ships but this was a modification of other folks' design for an AU): https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/161 ... r%20V2.png
