Shipbucket

Greetings Shipbucketeers.

I've been looking at this site for a little while since I found a link to it from the "What If" modellers site. Allow me to introduce myself. My main interest is Wargaming, usually with figures but I do have an extensive collection of 1/3000 scale ships. I work in the Aberdeen oil industry and my office overlooks Aberdeen harbour so I get to watch the prototype every day along with frequent visits to DSVs, survey vessels and so on (in harbour). In fact I was more than a little intrigued to see some ships belonging to my firm's parent company displayed here.

I have some plans for an AU which I will post separately and I'm also interested in late C19th/early C20th paddle steamers and river monitors having built a couple for wargaming purposes. Thses are not to scale of course as they'd be far too big for the table, but the idea is to model something with the lines of the prototype but that doesn't dwarf everything else. I have started on Shipbucket style drawing of the M33 Monitor. I only discovered this fascinating ship a couple of months ago and it certainly deserves a place here given its fascinating history. One of only two WW1 RN ships stil in existence.

Most of what I have drawn so far has been conversions of drawings already posted, so bear with me while I prepare my first "original" upload.

It does say somewhere propare to say goodbye to your life once you find Shipbucket and I must admit that's what its been like for the last two or three weeks. The wife is out tonight at festive season do so plenty of time to browse and draw.

The M33 monitor is indeed a facinating little ship. The other WW1 survivor BTW is HMS Caroline (currently on the stokes as she appeared in 2000 - her original configuration can be found on the main site in the Real Life section of Great Britain)

then there are 3.... as far as I know, there is an american battleship (Texas?) which fought in both world wars and still is afloat.

USS Texas, HMS M33, HMS Medea, HMS Caroline, Drazaki, and Georgio Averof

You'll have to tell us about HMS Medea because I was only aware of M33 and Caroline.

Also I believe that the Turkish minelayer, the Nurset(?) which laid the mines which sank so many ships at the Dardenelles still exists, albeit with drastically modified topsides.

That's correct!!

She was a yacht that had convoy escort duty with the French Navy in WW1 and was a barrage balloon ship for the Royal Navy in WW2.
