There is some progress, and it is indeed a step in the right direction, but that's a very, very tiny step. Apparently You didn't put too much attention to my advice, mainly point 3 and 4. ;)

If it is supposed to be a destroyer, then it should be rather something along these lines:

[ img ]

Note: this is just a very basic sketch I've made ad hoc just for the purpose of this discussion. It is supposed to be a late 1950s destroyer, VERY loosely inspired by Italian Impetuoso class. It lacks armament (just places where to place it: 2-3 x II x 127mm, 4 x II x 40mm, 2 x III x TT324mm, 2 x some ASW weapon), sensors, screws and essentially all small details, and I guess it would be a bit top-heavy too and it's bow is too long (that is, the A turret is too far to the rear) plus many small glitches, but it's just about general idea. Just compare it with Your drawing and see how wildly their proportions differ.

That's a nice looking project on its own eswube :); and thanks for taking the trouble to give some help to our new member. Thestrategist, I've looked at your update, and yes, its a great improvement, but you still have a long way to go before what we see is a design that can work; that said, you are asking for advice, and that's half the battle :)

Thank You! It would be interesting to see it finished some day. :)
That's not a trouble with helping. Indeed, I'm learning that way too (at least in this specific instance :D ), and since I'm not a particaularly prolific member when it comes to drawings, at least I can make some productive contribution that way.

Eswube, is that model are typical post Cold War destroyer?

If yes, maybe I can do more correction :geek:

==================================================================

Anyway, this is my correction. I deliberate to not put the guns and radar, because I'll fix this one if I found a mistake again soon.

Sorry, I use photobucket again. Because, I'm familiar with photobucket

What is model of "typical post Cold War destroyer"? My drawing abowe? It was to be a "typical early Cold War destroyer", but not "post Cold War" - these are rather US Arleigh Burke class or British Type 45 Daring class.

Your new drawing is a step in good direction! It's getting much better than before. :)
But there is still a significant amount of work to do.

[ img ]

1) it's too short - now it's a corvette or at most a small frigate,
2) You're using the wrong template - if You took it from:
http://www.shipbucket.com/images.php?dir=Parts%20Sheets
then unfortunately they are outdated (among others, they should have small "www.shipbucket.com" in lower right corner, just Admins do nothing about that.
Here are the proper ones:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1243&hilit=templates
3) Your hull is not high enough, especially in the aft (rear), above the rudder. Remember that in this scale 1 pixel = 15,24cm or 0,5 feet, so a man in this scale (180cm or 6ft tall) is 12 pixels high, therefore decks must be higher: no less that 12 pixels and more close to 14-15 plus a thickness of the deck's floor/ceiling. The doors could be therefore too small as well.
Remember: lots of mechanisms must fit inside the hull, also crew quarters, elements of armament (guns are not just the turrets You see above the deck, there is also a large magazine of ammunition below) and so on.
4) I also believe that The deck in the bow shouldn't be level but rather go up towards the front. While some ships don't have it, their hulls are higher. Otherwise You'll have a lots of water there, especially in bad weather. ;)

If You want to make it a post-Cold War ship, look at these drawings:

http://www.shipbucket.com/images.php?di ... 0Burke.png

http://www.shipbucket.com/images.php?di ... DARING.gif

http://www.shipbucket.com/images.php?di ... rt%201.gif

http://www.shipbucket.com/images.php?di ... in%201.gif

First try to draw a hull that would be of similar lenght to these (slightly shorter or longer - it's Your choice), of similar height (above the waterline) and draught (below the waterline) and generally of similar shape.
Then look where the superstructure starts and where it ends and how high it is, and try to draw Yours.
Next place the masts and funnels.
Later armament and sensors (radars, antennas etc).
Then add details like lifeboats, moorings and so on.
And in the end add railings and shading.

Generally, You're learning, and that's very good! :)

P.S. I'm using Photobucket too, so that's not a problem. ;)

Thanks for the advice, eswube. Now I know what I have to do :D

1. So, the destroyer is should be rather long than corvette? Got it. I'll elongate the hull.

2. Oh gosh. you are right :o Okay, I will change the template.

3. Got it. I'll elevate the hull.

4. Got it. Raise the deck.

I really appreciate your help, eswube, and thanks for the example of post-Cold War destroyer. Okay, I will do correction to my ship.

Once again, thank you :)

I would like to see this sketch in the top of the page becoming a destroyer for Polish Navy AU or another user.

Corvette are rather small patrol ships, in size next is frigate and then destroyer. Destroyer escort is similar size of frigate.

Early Cold War friend, early. ;)

We learn all life and you show good progress with your ship. Keep up the good work. :D

EDIT: My mistake about ships. ;) ( look down )

No problem. :)
But You should know that destroyers are larger than corvettes already before drawing anything here. ;)

And this should help You to understand the inner workings of the modern destroyer:
http://www.gearpm.com/media/catalog/pro ... silver.jpg
EDIT: note that the particular ship on this cutaway has helicopter facilities much different from ships of this class (Arleigh Burke) from the earlier link.

Odysseus1980
Thanks. Actually I was thinking of it more as a NATO country destroyer (so it would have to be a VERY alternative Polish Navy ;) ).
While it was supposed to be just a rough sketch and nothing more, I am indeed starting to think about finishing it, but this could happen only much, much later.
But I would have nothing against if somebody finish it for his own AU. ;)
(Only conditions would be: crediting, that I would see a finished ship before it's posting to SB and that I will reserve myself right to use it for my AU if I ever start one - of course with all proper credits)

Rhade
In my previous post I put some links to SB drawings of Arleigh Burke, Type 45 Daring, HMAS Hobart and KDX-II, hence the post-Cold War mention. ;)

@Rhade
Eswube is right. I mention the Shipbucket drawings link that he gave to me :D

Anyway, another correction. I was elongate the hull, elevate the hull, and raise the deck. The result is, my ships seems bigger

It's big, aren't they?
