Shipbucket

A random fancy took me lately, wondering just where all the ol' ASW DDs had got too rather than the T-23s and FFG-7s of the world now. In order to rectify this, I decided to have a little fiddle about with one of my favorite designs to see if I could wrangle a different escort up than a Spru-can for a silly lil' NS nation I have. The result of course can be seen below, originally I was thinking to work up a modernised Spruance more in the current Royal Navy style, but then I caught the Secret Projects thread for Rabid Stoat's Through-Deck Burke.

Of course with such a tasty concept, how could I resist? As it was, abit of slicing and fiddling with the bridge later I've got a Through-Deck Sea Wraith.



Hopefully I've kept it roughly within style, but I cannot claim to have a brilliant understanding of naval architecture or systems, thus I've likely failed horribly trying to retain several of the Sea Wraith 2's solid state arrays while adding on a SAMPSON and ARTISAN atop the superstructure. This thing is likely gold-plated to hell, but at least it's got the capability to defend itself rather more than the Zumwalt while pulling CVBG escort duties.

In terms of weaponry, we're talking 9 MK41s upfront, 3 in the rear position intended for quad-packed SAMs in place of a RAM, the autocannon up top should probably be removed (I think I overdid the side stuff abit there), a pair of Millenium guns serve as CIWS and a Oto Meldara 127mm is upfront. All that to keep the 5/6 Merlins aboard (Going by the intended 6 V22 capacity of through deck Burke) relatively safe, finally a Sonar 2087 to allow for abit of tailing to help the Merlins in their searches.

Hopefully this isn't too bad for a weekends mess around.
