This vessel carries a modern 20mm (?) gun. Picture is taken between mid 1950s (likely). Its a former KFK into service as a guard ship in the Federal Germany Navy. Anyone around who is familiair with this gun, or can ID it, and tell me what type? Would be great) |

That looks a lot larger than a 20mm, also note that there appears to be a breech at the back end of the gun, indicating that it would fire a single, hand loaded shell, and then need to be reloaded (also by hand). It bears a strong resemblance to the Oto - Melara 3 inch gun, which is now being built in an automated turret, but the gun by itself looks very similar. |

I don't think that this ship would have sustained a 76mm firing in that position. I'm fairly sure that's an early 20mm S-20 Marinelafette. |

signal and Cplnew83, if you think the guns you have chosen are correct, please find a photo or drawing of the gun that can be checked against the gun in Alex's photo. Confirm or deny. |

It's too early for the S-20, that didn't enter service until the 1970ies |

let me throw out 35-40 mm in air. for it is exactly what it looks like to me. Looking at it, it looks like a German 5 CM submarine gun. |

I'm fairly sure that's an early 20mm S-20 Marinelafette. I concur, maybe a 20 mm/65 Rh202 prototype ? |

I don't think its a 76mm, no way is that barrel long or fat enough to be a 3in. It looks more like a 40-30mm calibre range gun and mount to me. The mount seems familiar though but can't exactly place it. |

The early Rh-202 (20mm/65) is more possible, actually with a close look the cannon on the KFK seem very similar with that on photo posted by Colombamike. |
