Here is an interesting picture of an offical model of the Type 42 reproduced in Brassey's Annual 1970. It has all the features and layout of the Type 42 we know but seems to have a bridge, forward superstructure and funnel modelled on that of Leander. An interesting feature that I haven't noticed in other sources or plans, including in Friedman's 'Frigates and Destroyers'.

interesting. is it ipossible this was just an lazy modeller, or should we really treat this as an option they could have doen when building these ships?

Interesting one Hood. It also shows the ship with two anchors, a feature of the original design (later the ships were designed and built with one anchor to save weight and money).

another view, from Warships of the British and Commonwealth Navies 1966 , by H T Lenton:

I like the look of this earlier design (if such), with its distinct Leander influence; whereas, the built 42's looked a bit boxy around the bridge. Will you be doing this version Hood?

I just might do her, especially as I've now got two views to use!

On another board one poster speculated whether the modeller was lazy and stuck some Leander bits on. Personally I don't think so as it all seems to blend in nicely and is not identical to Leander (but very similar). The funnel looks like a Leander type, in all this design reminds me very strongly of the late 1960s design themes. It just seems to feel right to me.

Please, Hood :) The early version just looks more sexy; and I've never been a fan of the Type 42 bridge - too boxy :(
