Hi all,

I know we have a preliminary drawing of the VIKRAMADITYA (ex-GORSHOV and BAKU) in the archive, but the real thing is now finally out and about on trials. There are some changes, most notably the mast behind the island:

The real thing:

more, with some good close-ups of the new mast thingy:

Ywah Vikramaditya is on my "to do" list, been waiting for proper close-ups for the conversion. These images been around around month or so in the russian sites but I haven't find time yet to do it. I will most likely start working on it when I'm going for the Soviet carrier project update anyways in near future.

FINALLY

We on Airliners.net joked about whether or not they'd get the A380 flying before this thing. That was years ago!

yeah, it's something like 4 years late and 3 times over budget (excluding air wing).

Now it looks like they will have to tack on at least another year. They lost 7 of 8 boilers when doing a maximum speed test. Apparently the new heat protection on the boilers wasn't up to requirements. On October 12th Russian Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov confirms a minimum 1-year delivery delay,

What happened was this: The Indians use British style boilers with firebrick insulation. The Russians prefer asbestos wrap for insulation, and the Russians didn't use firebrick for the static tests.
