Hello everyone, has someone started a drawing of the Gato boat USS Drum? If not I am almost finished with my version depicting how she would have looked during her 14th war patrol. For details, I am Lucky enough to live close to were she rests, USS Alabama Memorial Park.

I would post the pictures I have taken, but the file size is to large to accommodate. What I can say is that the restoration effort on the boat has made some substantial progress, including the replating of the forward torpedo bays and the hole in the stern. Unfortunately the port side is still showing its age!

Guys, this forum is not a place to post your intent to draw something or request source images. Do that either in the General forum or in the Sources and References forum.

As far as I know SS-228 has not been drawn, there is an old Gato that I drew somewhere in the archive but it needs updating.

This is the detail I have completed on the conning tower. Note that Drum was unique in that her original conning tower was mashed with components off a Balao boat to repair her bridge in 1943.

This is as she looked in 1945.

That looks nice. Be advised that we have the 20mm Oerlikon and the 40mm Bofors already drawn, though. Find them on the US Parts Sheets topic.

I may have to stick with this particular 40mm, the others will not fit. On Drum, her 40mm was custom fit by Mare Island to fit in the would-be 20mm section. This means the mount is significantly shorter than conventional mounts.

Here she is, as she was in July of 45! Unfortunately she doesn't look this good anymore  .
