I have a feeling the problem is with the digitised image.
I wonder if its the original drawing file or has been scanned from a copy of the book? If its the latter, the curvature of the page/ spine gutter might have distorted the length.

I can't imagine why a publisher would do this for an ebook as they should have the original files but it seems a distinct possibility that something has warped this image - especially if, as you say, the scanning qaulity is rubbish to begin with.

Based on the idea that the original image may have been skewed out of true by the process of digitisation I went back to the beginning and sourced the best version of the HMS Superb plan I could find, scaled it based off the prototypes' LWL spec [550ft/1100px] and voila!. What is shown below is the best I can get it and it's still 1-2 pixel's out depending on where you look. Deck-to-deck heights are 16 pixels and when I import in 6" Mk XXIII turrets from the RN parts sheet [as shown] they are 1-2 pixels out vertically and 4-5 pixels out in the horizontal.

My question is; Is this level of accuracy sufficient [accepting that i have to fudge it a bit to make the turrets and other major 'parts' work with the drawing, OR, am I still missing a trick here?

Ok, I think I have located the problem.
The turret ring/barbette seems correct, but the rear overhang of the turret is too large.

I have now made some size edits and generally cleaned up the excessive black lines too.
