The Mk. 37 director was in fact in two parts, the main (and visible) was the part above with radar, some were mounted on a barbette like on early Fletcher class destroyers, while the later Fletchers as well as Gearing class were mounted lower (I believe it was to save weight, because of all those small AA guns). The second part of the director was below decks and it was the fire control computer (an analogue one).

if you don't come around doing it, colo, please hand me the sources and I will see what I can do while it is earlier in timeline then what I normally draw, I am quite interested in seeing it drawn
