@C the sigma is just my current flavor of the month ship. practical and efficient and uses modern technology nothing "transformative" or "revolutionary" which is why i like it.

The SIGMA is a good design, but it also depends what type off mission the USCG want it for. if it is for offshore duty, and must be capable to handle the worst weather condition out there the Ulstein-design X-bow have a big advantage.

There is reason for why Norway use offshore vessel design philosofy in their coast guard vessel (good weather boat, good cargo capability, big tanks for oil-spill,towing capacity) (That's Norway) But what USCG realy want is the big question.

due to budgetary issues i think the Sigma with lifted 76's from the old cutters is the best bet. but im not god. that being said i think a better USCG force would be built around the 6 Ledgend class cutters, 4 to 6 AOPS similar to what Canada is building or planning idk whats goin on with that project as of now and 19 general purpose small cutters then the 50 unit fleet senetiels and other smaller ships. the AOPS should be permanently stationed in alaska and the Ledgends and OPC's in CONSUS, Hawaii, and our protectorates in the western Pacific, guam, american samoa, et cetra. I also think maybe 2 to 4 commercially designed ice breakers like Shells new Aviqiq ice breaker and support ship or again a partnership with the Canadian coast guard and their new large ice breaker ship program would create a larger and modern and cheaper fleet. versus the 8 ledgend NSC, 25 OPC, and 3 new ice breakers or rehabs. just my two cents.
