Post subject:  Wooden planks ?

Hi ! Does anyone saw a top view drawing with some wooden planks for the US Navy WW2 warships somewhere over the forum ? And the part sheets ? :shock:

There are a few people who do the top-downs, David Latuch and Syzmo are the only WW2 USN top down drawers to spring to mind. Otherwise the simple 3x15pix is a good guidline

I do only modern ships top view, but when I do some classic it often results in this:

I'm pretty sure the USN painted their decks during the war as a camouflage measure.

So I was walking the decks of USS Wisconson the other day as well as a few decks made out of teak and you know wood decking really is more grey than tan in color after a couple years.

I know I spent two years on the Newport News (CA-148) and you're quite correct, teak does turn gray.

After about 150 years, Burmese Teak turns a very unique grey-white

so long teak doesn't get oiled often enough.. it goes gray.

Henrik, The USN holystoned the decks with pumice blocks to sand and remove the salt build-up the was little time for oiling the deck.
