It looks good... thought In my eyes, the last version also looked good, so I hope you wont enrole into too much into details that starts work against the drawing in this scale. This also makes me wonder who drew that main radar and why is it presented that way? It could need more touches to bring it SB style. |

that radar is drawn by miho more then a year ago and is used on about at least 10 real design USN drawings since then, and some neverbuilds as well...... please say you are not going to change it?

Joking, right? Do you even remember what it replaced? This also makes me wonder who drew that main radar and why is it presented that way? It could need more touches to bring it SB style. |

This isn't the place to discuss it but I really don't like that non-restrained grey... I feel it should be drawn similarly to the old model (which fits SB standards). |

The old model is absolutely shit and fit nothing. And as cute as it is to try and draw all the ribs in a dish, it just makes for a godawful mess when the details are really beneath SB scale, at which point a grey sheet is the best option. And really, complaining after it's been used for 2,5 years? |

Ah, no, I was referring to the radar set in question. The ship is excellent. |

Even if we would go that far decide to change it, it doesen't mean every ship needs to be redrawn outside their natural renewal cycle. So its not something worth of panic about.

Yea, the old version was shit, No objections for that part. But like Colo said, the unbordered grey just pokes the eye. I know radars are difficould and you cannot get them 100% rigth becouse the narrow details under 15cm which is smallest we can get. And reason for me to complain now is becouse I don't actually that much follow western ships, since I don't know much about them and I've sorta expected you others keep track on them. And 99.99% time I've been positively suprised. Leut_East's drawings are actually one of the first of the "otherside" of the curtain that I've begun actively follow And really, complaining after it's been used for 2,5 years? But perhaps we can continue this dicsussion in the partsheets? |

The reason it's grey is because the dish isn't solid, it's a fairly open mesh |

Idea of SB is not that if something looks difficould to produce within the set of rules, you can alter the rules. radar dishes cannot be drawn 1:1 accuracy so one has to then improvise them to fit into the existing SB rules and styles, not start bending the rules beyond their purpose. What I suggest (and how I've always drawn radars) is forget the close-ups. Don't look the thing from the distance where you can spot every wrench and wire. Look it from the distance that resembles most about SB scale. Then try to determ what you can see and what not. What makes up the shape of the object. Then drawn the crude outlines. Then figure out what details are most prominent and what can be observed by eye from the distance that resembles the scale. Add them in with all the SB detail-exaggeration methods, and if you cant make out anything but black overlapsing pixel haze out of them, leave them completely. Repeat it untill starts to look good, and then the most important part, STOP. Since going too much around this way ends up overdetailing, and you have lost the purpose. |

but when looking from an distance, this fuzzy mess is the way it looks, right? but anyways, I let you and miho sort that out, but the reason I want not to change it because it is already on quite a few drawings in the archive is because I like to keep my drawings up to date. the perry's for example are considered by me the best possible drawings possible, and better source material then I used will not result in an more accurate drawing. because of that, I consider them final. now if new parts appear, I will change those. that is my choice, but this is also to not have the bucket full of parts nobody recognises because they have been replaced with parts looking completely different. |
