With the Mecca class finished, I thought about other non-Roman ships. I started drawing and come up with a ship for Scandinavia. It was built as a response to the Roman Devestatio class, and other battleships built to counter it. Being much bigger, give or take 25 meters longer, it also had more guns for a total of 10 16 inch guns in 4 turrets. Armor belt is 14 inches thick. Top speed is 25 kts. The armor is thicker than most other ships because of steel of sub-par quality compared to other nations. The ship is smaller, but has more guns and thicker armor than the Neptunus class commisioned in 1919, but is heavier at standard displacement and 1000 tons lighter at full load. As usual, a wip. I mostly have details left to add before I can call it finished. RSS Ragnarök, Scandinavian Kingdom Battleship laid down 1915 Displacement: 38 555 t light; 40 620 t standard; 42 615 t normal; 44 210 t full load Dimensions: Length overall / water x beam x draught 654,00 ft / 654,00 ft x 105,00 ft x 30,00 ft (normal load) 199,34 m / 199,34 m x 32,00 m x 9,14 m Armament: 10 - 16,00" / 406 mm guns (4 mounts), 2 048,00lbs / 928,96kg shells, 1915 Model Breech loading guns in turrets (on barbettes) on centreline ends, evenly spread, 2 raised mounts - superfiring 16 - 5,00" / 127 mm guns in single mounts, 62,50lbs / 28,35kg shells, 1905 Model Breech loading guns in casemate mounts on side, all amidships 4 - 4,00" / 102 mm guns in single mounts, 32,00lbs / 14,51kg shells, 1915 Model Anti-aircraft guns in deck mounts on side, evenly spread Weight of broadside 21 608 lbs / 9 801 kg Shells per gun, main battery: 100 4 - 18,0" / 457,2 mm submerged torpedo tubes Armour: - Belts: Width (max) Length (avg) Height (avg) Main: 14,0" / 356 mm 425,00 ft / 129,54 m 16,00 ft / 4,88 m Ends: 6,00" / 152 mm 154,00 ft / 46,94 m 13,00 ft / 3,96 m 75,00 ft / 22,86 m Unarmoured ends Main Belt covers 100 % of normal length - Torpedo Bulkhead: 4,00" / 102 mm 425,00 ft / 129,54 m 13,00 ft / 3,96 m - Gun armour: Face (max) Other gunhouse (avg) Barbette/hoist (max) Main: 18,0" / 457 mm 8,00" / 203 mm 12,0" / 305 mm 2nd: 2,00" / 51 mm 1,00" / 25 mm 1,00" / 25 mm - Armour deck: 6,00" / 152 mm, Conning tower: 16,00" / 406 mm Machinery: Oil fired boilers, steam turbines, Geared drive, 4 shafts, 86 887 shp / 64 818 Kw = 25,00 kts Range 7 500nm at 12,00 kts Bunker at max displacement = 3 590 tons Complement: 1 482 - 1 927 Cost: £5,933 million / $23,732 million Distribution of weights at normal displacement: Armament: 2 701 tons, 6,3 % Armour: 16 584 tons, 38,9 % - Belts: 4 656 tons, 10,9 % - Torpedo bulkhead: 818 tons, 1,9 % - Armament: 4 448 tons, 10,4 % - Armour Deck: 6 241 tons, 14,6 % - Conning Tower: 421 tons, 1,0 % Machinery: 3 291 tons, 7,7 % Hull, fittings & equipment: 15 979 tons, 37,5 % Fuel, ammunition & stores: 4 060 tons, 9,5 % Miscellaneous weights: 0 tons, 0,0 % Overall survivability and seakeeping ability: Survivability (Non-critical penetrating hits needed to sink ship): 55 160 lbs / 25 020 Kg = 26,9 x 16,0 " / 406 mm shells or 7,9 torpedoes Stability (Unstable if below 1.00): 1,06 Metacentric height 6,1 ft / 1,8 m Roll period: 17,9 seconds Steadiness - As gun platform (Average = 50 %): 57 % - Recoil effect (Restricted arc if above 1.00): 0,84 Seaboat quality (Average = 1.00): 1,13 Hull form characteristics: Hull has raised forecastle, rise forward of midbreak, low quarterdeck Block coefficient: 0,724 Length to Beam Ratio: 6,23 : 1 'Natural speed' for length: 25,57 kts Power going to wave formation at top speed: 53 % Trim (Max stability = 0, Max steadiness = 100): 50 Bow angle (Positive = bow angles forward): -15,00 degrees Stern overhang: -4,00 ft / -1,22 m Freeboard (% = measuring location as a percentage of overall length): - Stem: 30,00 ft / 9,14 m - Forecastle (20 %): 27,00 ft / 8,23 m (25,00 ft / 7,62 m aft of break) - Mid (50 %): 25,00 ft / 7,62 m (18,00 ft / 5,49 m aft of break) - Quarterdeck (15 %): 17,00 ft / 5,18 m (25,00 ft / 7,62 m before break) - Stern: 20,00 ft / 6,10 m - Average freeboard: 23,44 ft / 7,14 m Ship space, strength and comments: Space - Hull below water (magazines/engines, low = better): 92,1 % - Above water (accommodation/working, high = better): 167,0 % Waterplane Area: 56 223 Square feet or 5 223 Square metres Displacement factor (Displacement / loading): 95 % Structure weight / hull surface area: 211 lbs/sq ft or 1 028 Kg/sq metre Hull strength (Relative): - Cross-sectional: 0,96 - Longitudinal: 1,52 - Overall: 1,00 Hull space for machinery, storage, compartmentation is adequate Room for accommodation and workspaces is excellent |

she has very little resemblance to the real USS South Dakota (BB-49) of 19120, but she is still a very good looking ship and doubtlessly powerful. |

Strangely someone made a railgun dread called the Ragnarok in a RP I played. |
