Post subject:  KHT Projects

I felt like starting a thread for all my personal designs... it's much easier than comming up with flashy titles for each and every one of my new threads. :P
Either way, this is a thread I'll just use to post new PDs as I make them. It will include different ships of different types and contexts. No red thread, no consistancy.

So without further ado, here's my first drawing of this thread. Greatly inspired by Maomatics amazing drawing of the Scharnhorst class, this more or less a down-sized Scharnhorst class ship. Ironically the turrets are more based of French turrets, but that's beside the point(If I'm rambling it's because it's late and I've just had two hours of dancing practice)(What the bleedin' zog happened to "without further ado"? Damnit, KHT).

Yes, I'm aware the 135mm turrets are rather anachronistic. I liked them though, and since whatever nation made this clearly haven't got adequate DP guns, it makes(some) sence to add a middle caliber to deal with pesky torpedo attacks.
I like the 240mm gun for a cruiser killer. It's usually my first hand choice for these kinds of designs.
Um... yeah. I felt she's neatly balanced(faster is always nice, but that would force me to lessen the armour, and I like my cruiser killers capable to taking a punch(and flinging back a heavier one without having recieved a broken nose for the trouble). I hope you like it as well. :)

PS. Please ignore the faulty number of AA guns in the drawing compared to the Springsharp report. I only discovered that I'd missed that as I was about to post, and I really don't feel like fixing it right now(I refer to the afforementioned tiredness), and posting this some other time after having written this post feels... very non-tempting. Consider this drawing a WIP in the AA gunnery department.

Very pretty KHT apart form the possibly unintentional retention of the deck level guide aft of the bridge. You are certainly right in saying she looks balanced, the 240mm mounts work well

i take the doors aft of the firecontroll tower are just in placeholder situation?
otherwise this is neat, really neat drawing.

Thanks all! :D

Yes, the deck level guide was unintetional, and has been fixed.

She looks really nice to me, certainly a good counter for the pocket battleships. I would personally have stuck with single turrets fore and aft, added an additional amidships DP gun and use any leftover displacement for either improved protection or speed. Sure she wouldn't have quite the same striking power, but she'd perhaps still make a good vessel.

Thank you! :D
I feel the trade-off in firepower would not be really worth it. Increased secondaries would mostly be cramped and suffer from poor firing angles, and only six main rifles of such a "small" caliber for a ship this size would feel quite wasteful. I also think the armour and speed are fully satisfactory, and increasing either at the cost of firepower is simply not motivated enough. But it's an interesting idea, nonetheless.

I've changed a few things in the SS report, having corrected some things I noticed were off.

Well if you were to go with just twin main turrets you could potentially upgrade the weapons to battleship caliber if circumstances ever required it, thus enabling them to be converted like the Mogamis from their as built/treaty compliant selves to more capable/powerful ships in wartime.

A very nice looking design, I'm picking up slight Italian/ Soviet overtones in the style of the superstructure.
