So in a previous post, I did throw out for discussion a potential new class of missile that would be fired from a small periscope sized vertical launch tube. I kind of thought it was a bit of a game changer in the littoral world. There is precious little ASW capability in most littoral environments. Any vessels with surface to surface and surface to air capability only would be defenseless not to mention near shore targets for direct attack and short range GPS targets inland. There would be little if any warning if you did not know the sub was there. An attack by a mach 2+ missile inside of 20km would probably catch any weapons officer asleep at his screen. In a more blue water environment, the skipper would probably just stay quite unless discovered. But now would have an attack option to add to his toy box, so now he would have more options than "run and hide".
