eh? Finland has 60 figther planes, which thougth may be techinically aviable for naval strikes, but in practicall situation would be involved in air defence for 200 per cent demand ;)
Also, the landbased, truck mounted SSMs can supplement the coastal defenses well, and replace the old artillery based coastal defences, but they never can replace naval forces, or presense of naval forces, just like old artillery based coastal defences never could. Effectice coastal defences in enverioment like Finland has requires extensive presense of mines, coastal artillery (guns and missiles), missile armed fast attack crafts and ( which we do not poses in OTL), naval air arm and submarines.

I mean in the general design, not Finland specifically. I say it namely because their placement just seems to take up space that could be otherwise utilized. Could it not be set up like the Chinese have with missiles over the actual sponsons?

Point taken. Thougth in small combatants like these, despite what you get ridd of, there is always too little space for anything ;)

I'm in disagreement with this. AShMs are one of the key points of keeping a boat like this.

EDIT: However, placing the launchers on the sponsoons isn't a bad idea either. Actually, it's a brilliant one.

And on the note of coastal defenses - the main advantage of coastal defenses, particularly truck-mounted AShMs, is that they can use the terrain for camouflage, mobility, and to just offer protection in general. Because of ground clutter, it's harder for a ship to track land targets than vice versa, and in a wooded area like Finland, even moreso. You can effectively pop in and out of radar coverage at will, popping in just long enough to fire missiles.

However, they can only effectively strike at targets that almost deliberately wander into their range of fire. Larger fjords or waterways actually mean that an enemy vessel can sail right up the middle with impunity, and land-based launchers often run into radar range issues (smaller truck-mounted sets, for example) or other targeting issues. Also, the same terrain that helps mask launchers can hinder their ability to reposition at at truly advantageous launching site.
