Seeing as a lot of "shore bombardment" ships have been drawn lately and seeing the large debate over them, I've decided to make an attempt at a reasonable 21st-century ship tasked with shore bombardment via guns. This would make sense in the future cash-strapped navies, where funding for the armed forces is cut and throwing away tomahawks on every little tank in Africa and the Middle East isn't an option. It's armed with 2 5" guns, VLS for Tomahawks for high-value targets or ESSM for defense, and RAM as a CIWS. It's a very rough WIP. It would be powered conventionally, and have a reduced RCS to make it a viable 21st century combatant. It has reasonable facilities for aircraft, both for the normal purposes and for spotting shore targets.

It's...I guess?

Don't take this the wrong way but it strikes me as being more a general-purpose frigate. I suggest you finish this first (as practice if nothing else) but a true shore bombardment ship would have...I dunno, MLRS on it, or since it's so singular-purpose it could be made simpler and more minimalistic - compare battleships with shore bombardment monitors, for example.

True, a bit of mission creep got in.

I'm pretty sure I've already told you this before - this is not your thread. Do not post your work in it. If you have something to show, do it in your own thread. - erik_t
