well, the bow is reinforced and they will be going in the antarctic summer..... but even then, you are right. they will be going through ice packed area's for only a short while though, .... although I can't tell anything else about it because the story is still entirely secret.
I recommend going with a double-acting hull design, though that means losing the propeller shroud.
