I am currently working on some of my AU's Air assets and following Mine and Ashebourton's CV-22 Osprey am trying to come up with a AEW variant for my Navy. and would like some advice on which version is most plausible......
Option A uses a radome similar to the E-2 Hawkeye.
Option B uses a chin mounted radar system.
Option C is Bases on the future UK Crows nest system, and uses a swing down radome on a removable system that can be fitted simply by removing the cargo door, reversion to a standard V-22 just entails removing the self contained system and refitting the door.

C or the triangular radar that Bell/Boeing proposed - I can get you links to the source material if you would like.

I prefer B mate, using the same systems as used in the Merlin... That way you have common parts, common training etc. and all the benefits that that brings with it.

ps. fantastic drawings as always Shippy :)

You're forgetting C is already used with Sea Kings in one form or another (which incidentally is what they've been looking at integrating with Merlin). Searchwater just seems to go on forever and ever.

i am going to plum for C, my navy already uses the system on the Merlin and the V 22 is to replace that the Merlins had the system fitted from there sea king predecessor so it'll just be another addition, plus if the system can be built as self containing it can use a standard CV-22C, in my navy a HC.3 and have its rear door removed. if an airframe becomes un serviceable the equipment can be transferred to another airframe whilst the out of service one is repaired and then returned to service as a normal HC.3...... in service it will be a ECV-22 AEW.1

i have also got another CV-22C derivative this time a single point tanker with fuel tank in the cargo bay and a hose and drogue unit fitted into the semi permanently closed cargo door. this will be the KCV-22 K.1
