That was a real sub, and it was painted pink for the movie. |

Realistically I think the underwater hull would still be red. I don't think they had time to get her in a drydock to paint the whole hull. |

Realistically I think the underwater.
For the movie several subs were used!hull would still be red. I don't think they had time to get her in a drydock to paint the whole hull. The pink one was a Balao class and it was full pink: there are some underwater sequences showing the pink hull ( also if I agree with your logical comment). BTW I guess that Us ww2 subs were having grey hulls. |

This movie was loosely based on a real incident - a USN sub serving in Philippine waters Dec 41 - Feb 42 needed to be repainted, but had to wait until it arrived in Australia, by which time most of its gray paint had been worn off, exposing the red lead primer below. |

Will Colosseum & Gollevainen smile like Cary Grant and Tony Curtis?!? Should ships from fictional sources be placed in the Never-were, AU, or someother forum, even if the ship is based on a real classes of ships? BTW, red lead exposed to tropical sun for a long period of time fades to a very light (pinkish) color. |
