The Asashimo class was a class of medium sized ocean liners built between 1901 and 1908 they mainly served the sendai to Tokyo route but in later life will end up serving Heguri to Sydney route as well as less prioritised routes.

The Asashimo was christened on the 15th of February 1907 she was built mainly for the shorter range routes such as between Tokyo and sendai and the Heguri to Hong Kong route, however in later life her two sisters would end up serving the Heguri to Sydney route in late 1920s as well as many other less prioritised routes.

With the Outbreak of WWI the Asashimo was assigned as a troop ship unlike her sister she didn't receive a dazzle camo paint scheme she was simply painted into into warship Grey, the three ships war time service was extremely unremarkable with the Wars end in 1918 the three ships returned to civilian service.

in 1928 the makigumo was being docked at Heguri Harbour when her mooring Lines snapped she began to drift out into the path of surprisingly enough her sister the Asashimo, the Asashimo ended up ramming the makigumo in the middle luckily it resulted in only one Casualty this happened to be a a crew member who fell overboard and drowned however the damage to the ships was expensive, the Asashimo bow had to be completely rebuilt, the makigumo however had to have entire section of upper Hull replaced.

in 1934 during the Japanese invasion the kazagumo and the Asashimo we both quickly captured by Japanese forces, the makigumo however managed to escape Heguri Harbour and tried to make a break for the Pacific however Japanese Destroyer is quickly caught up to her and ordered her to surrender she was unceremoniously sailed back to Heguri Harbour where she was laid up with her sisters until late 1936 when all three ships are returned to service, now primarily on the sendai to Tokyo route in 1938 with the ships age becoming apparent all three ships planned to be decommissioned by 1939, however would the Outbreak of World War two or three ships were briefly called upon to move Japanese troops in the Pacific, however in 1940 all three ships were laid up the kazagumo and the makigumo were both scrapped in 1941 the Asashimo remained laid up until 1950 when she was also scrapped.
