I have reached an empass - what is left to draw in my IFAN AU? Covered so far: DDG (2 classes) FFG (2 classes) FF (1 class) AOR (2 units) Land Warfare Support Vessels Aviation Support Vessel Torpedo Recovery Vessel Submarines Submarine Support and Rescue Vessel Training Ships Survey Vessels Small Boats Fleet Air Arm Very hesitant on including an aircraft carrier (similar to the Thai Navy vessel) although I can be persuaded. The Canberra Class has already been drawn so if I include them they will only be heavily modified kitbashes. Any ideas? |

Minesweepers and maybe a repair ship. Aside from its military role the latter would be really useful when cleaning up after typhoons and tsunamis in South-East Asia and Oceania |

I reckon the Canberras are too big for our needs. Three or four smaller vessels like the Garibaldi http://shipbucket.com/images.php?dir=Re ... 202003.png or the San Giorgio http://shipbucket.com/images.php?dir=Re ... 03%202.png would make ideal disaster relief even for our own coasts using Helo, LCAC and LVTP or some other AAV. ... and I'd love to see your take on the Canberra, even if I think they are white elephants. |

I reckon the Canberras are too big for our needs. I would respectfully disagree. Although my knowledge on the operation of naval vessels is very limited, there is the saying that steel is cheap and air is free. By only building 2 bigger ships even if you don't use them at full capacity all the time you have the option of increasing your 'on the beach' presence without increasing the number of ships. Also by only building two - although the per ship costs for the larger vessels would be higher - to reach the same capability with smaller ships would require the purchase of more radars and other systems plus the overall crew requirement I imagine would be roughly similar.Three or four smaller vessels like the Garibaldi or the San Giorgio As for what next with the IFAN, perhaps doing different ships through the years? Opening it up to encompass the whole 20th Century would give you a whole boatload of ships to draw (depending on how comfortable you are with ships of different eras). Otherwise maybe do some ships of allied navies? That could be interesting... Also I think an aircraft carrier up to the size of an Invincible class wouldn't be implausible considering we were close to purchasing HMS Invincible herself at one stage |

Hi LEUT_East, I don't know your feelings on this, but I'd like to see the preceding generation of IFAN craft - you've really done a top-notch job on these, keen to see where you'd go with the previous generation of technology... Ad |

After watching these excellent thread, with your superbly drawn modern ships, maybe you can "go back in time", and make earlier ships of the country. As a merchant ships drawer myself you can also make some merchant ships, modern and earlier era ships. These will give a lot to draw |

You still need the previous generation of submarines, even if it is just a on-land version of an Oberon to act as a museum. And why limit yourself to the existing Canberra design? There's other designs out there. |
