I started this scenario aaages ago, but never did that much work on it. I haven't done a very in-depth history and narrative as I lack both imagination and, currently, free time! Please forgive any inaccuracies or unrealism. I'm not going to get too hung up on details; this is, after all, just an excuse to draw and repaint some SB & FD creations with a central theme and identity.

The República Federal de Centroamérica was a nation from 1823-1838 and comprised the present-day countries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and the Los Altos region (comprising part of Guatemala and the Mexican state of Chiapas). My FRCA also includes the former Republic of Yucatan, which at one point was independent of Mexico.

My scenario imagines the creation of the Nicaragua canal, a second Panama Canal connecting the Pacific to the Caribbean. This will prove to strengthen relations with the USA and later result in diplomatic issues with both Panama and the USA.

Brown lines show real-life borders, Orange is the territory of the FRCA. Nicaraguan Canal is shown in blue, connecting Lake Nicaragua to Pacific and Caribbean.

History

WWI: A neutral state, but a fairly significant regional naval power.

WWII: Neutral, but later supporting USA operations through the Nicaraguan Canal.

Post-1945: Trade and Border disputes with Panama & USA. Internal issues with left-wing geurillas resulting in posturing, conflict and political swing towards socialism. Closer relations with the Eastern bloc for a short period before internal and external pressures cause a return to Western relations and a change in government in the late 70s.

Present day: With a population of around 38 Million and a strong economy based on commerce, tourism and manufacturing, the FRCA is a significant regional power.

Is there a reason the "Honduran Canal" is in southern Nicaragua and is not actually anywhere close to Honduras?

I'm guessing Belize is still British or an independent Commonwealth realm?

Oh my... how did You know that 'm planning such AU too?
Only without Yucatan, without going socialist (merely "moderate progressive" - folks at United Fruit and Langley wouldn't see a difference anyway  ) and without Panama Canal, so that Nicaragua Canal would be only Atlantic-Pacific waterway in the area. I wanted that canal to be built already in 19th century and certainly it would influence relations with USA (in a negative manner), which would like to get its hands on it.
Anyway, I made no drawings of ships yet, so nothing happened. Have a good fun with that! :)

No way! Please don't let me stop you if you want to continue. I think my work on this scenario will focus initially on FD-scale drawings anyway. I have a couple of SB-scale WiPs that I'm a bit stuck on. Also, my current background story is probably as in-depth as it's going to get, so please carry on, it would be great to see what you can come up with. As I said my imagination in these projects is not that impressive.

No, no! I wouldn't do much for it anytime soon, and You posted this entry already, so it's all Yours now.
Of course, if You wish, I'd be happy to share with You some concepts I have. :)
