CAV - C-10A Tigre

The C-10 Tigre (tiger) was the first successful Venezuelan aircraft combining fighter and interceptor characteristics in a single aircraft. It was a lightweight fighter, achieving Mach 2, and is thus comparable to the American Lockheed F-104 Starfighter and Northrop F-5 Freedom Fighter and the French Dassault Mirage III. But this level of performance was not attained as soon as desired, because of the original engine being underpowered and as a result it was decided to look for a foreign aircraft that could serve as a temporary alternative while the C-10 was improved. In 1959 the Venezuelan Air Force approached the French government about the acquisition of the license to produce both the Mirage III and its powerplant the Atar 9. The reason behind producing the Atar was to install it on the C-10. The first 24 Mirages were delivered directly from Dassault in late 1961 along with a number engines, some of which were sent directly to CAV to test them on the C-10. The first Atar powered C-10 took to the air in January 1962 and after the engineers and pilots were satisfied with the modifications all the aircraft in the production line were inmediately modified and all the aircraft onwards were equipped the French engine.

General characteristics:

Crew: 1 or 2
Length: 14.23 m (46.69 ft)

That's a very nice looking fighter and it looks very 1950s too. Good work!

Before the C-10A entered service with the Venezuelan air force the team that designed it was already working on an improved version of the aircraft. The new version featured the same engine used by the larger C-12, and a redesigned nose that carried a new radar based on that of the C-12. The intallation of the new engine had a cosiderable impact on performance especially the top speed which was increased from Mach 2 to Mach 2.1 and the acceleration. But the development didnt stop there, an even better variant was developed in parallel using the knowledge obtained from the C-12 program and although it was based on the C-10 the new version had considerable diferences and as a result it was designated as C-13 Pantera (panther).

Love it Kike!
Now, looking over the specs I assume that the C-10 series are comparable to the F-16 in performance?

Also, a quick question for the aircraft list on page 3, when did your CAV AC-11-100 enter service and when will it be retired? I was thinking of using supersonic aircraft for my Denton AU, based on the Boeing 2707-200 and just wanted to know the timeline of yours.

Glad you like it Ezgo. :)

In basic specifications the C-10 looks close to the F-16, but you have to remember that the C-10 was designed in the 1950's and when it comes to agility, rate of climb and acceleration the F-16 is the superior plane. The C-10 is very close and slightly superior to the Mirage III for example, mainly because of its layout which is conventional and avoids the speed loss tipical of the delta wing.

The AC-11-100 entered service in late 1977 but when it comes to retirement im still not very sure because im trying to make the AC-11-200 with better fuel efficiency, EFIS cockpit and fly-by wire controls and maybe keep it in service until 2015 or further but im still working on it.

I hope it helps.

Hi everyone what im posting here are three classes of battleships that preceded the Zulia Class battleship they are supossed to be in the 1907 -1911 timeframe a time characterised for the Venezuelan Navy because of the continuous trial and error. Im having problems because it is the first time i have attempted to make such old ships and i would like to know what im doing wrong and what i can do to improve them.
