See my edit with my Wasp class for my solution to the problem. I'm not very comfortable with the "could be earlier" train of thought though, because you end up with things like Helicopters in times like WW2.

You mean like the Focke WulfFw 61, the Flettner FL 282 or the Sikorsky R-4?
Anyway, there were a number of comparable missiles available in the 1960ies, most of them just happens to be of Soviet origin.

Technically the first one was an autogyro, but point taken. Comments on my ships?

Okay, its been established that I get to pick a cut off date for back dating equipment, and that date is 1975 AD. PERIOD.

Brilliant Idea, Carnac, but too easy in my book, lol. For creativity I give you a Gold star and your idea passes inspection. (SAM into SSM)

Van Owen and myself hatched a little plan with the SSM problem for Republic and likeminded nations. We Reverse Engineered a SS-2-N. I present to you the First Dedicated CG of the DCN, the Defiance-class Guided Missile Cruiser equipped with the SGM-05 Twilight SSM.

The advantage of using the Tartar is that any ship that can fire it in AA form can fire it in SSM form without modification to their hardwear.

My issue with that ship Nighthunter is her lack of long range SAMs. You've got a hull that is going to be a solid 13k tons light, and she's only got two Tartar sized mounts, eight SSMs, A pair of helos and 6 medium caliber twin guns. Honestly I would have expected some sort of longer range SAM.

Edit, now that I say that the ship isn't as bad as it seemed at first glance. Still not sold on the guns forward. I'd try and see if I could swap the forward GMLS and the number two turret. You might be able to link the two forward magazines then.

That seems like the right thing to do.

So, we make ships and equipement as of 1970 to 1975?

Why do all your nuclear thorium ships have funnels?
Because they still have axillary plants powered via fossil fuels. Also, as cooling towers for the nuclear plants.

Catz you would not get a Sea King in the hanger. One it's physically not tall enough, two the AA turret prevents entry of the helo on the port side where the shutter is.
Unlike the County Class my design has a below deck hangar, accessible via a lift.

I'm wanting to do an updated WW2 era cruiser as the centrepiece of my nations current navy. Would it be okay to use a heavily modified HMS scylla as drawn by novice as a base line? I'll be changing quite a lot, but there is the hull and some superstructure that I want to keep hold of. Would this be a problem?

Royal Flag of Terrencia

The Prince Consort Class LHAs were born during the early years of the war across the channel against the People's Republic of South Arkota across the southern channel. The Prince Consorts were originally small ASW carriers built during the last great war. In the intervening years, they were mothballed and sat in the Gorges Channel Reserve Fleet until the Arkotan War flared up. The Prince Consorts were put into service first as aircraft transports and then converted into LHAs. While it has a small helicopter complement, six, the class will be serving as the prototype for the next batch of LHAs to be built. Two of the six vessels were converted into helicopter repair ships.

Presently, one group is stationed in South Arkota, which consists of two LHAs and a HRV with a couple of escort vessels, while the other group is stationed at HMS Dogsford, the largest Terrencian naval base in the north, for training purposes.

This is still a WIP as I am figuring out what Radar system, changing the island and what type of weaponry can be placed on the hulls.

Edit: This is the originally converted Prince Consort-class in 1961.
