Thanks! It never really stopped rolling as such. I just stopped finishing designs, I have so much stuff in my SB folder that I've started and not bothered finishing for various reasons. It should look like a Super Sigma! The 10513 is IMHO one of the finest looking warships to be produced.

The AU stuff is all still in place but using real systems gets more feedback (at least it appears that way) so I'll leave them off the designs for now.

A quick question regarding sensor selection. What do people who are brighter than me think to the notion of using the CEAFAR/CEAMOUNT combination in conjunction with RIM-174 and ESSM for a carrier's own defence net?

I showed these to ALVAMA earlier so it only makes sense I put them up here to. Considerable WIP on both accounts. The former is a partner to my MRSC which I'm going to include for this AU with some shuffling round of amphibious forces. The latter is the replacement for my 'A' class fleet carriers.

I apologize for the massive images but they are somewhat necessary...

There are probably a myriad of faults between the two designs, alas I've put to much effort into them to do anything too drastic to right them if there are indeed faults... Anyhow. Happy viewing! ~Mark.

Looking extremely excellent as always. The former ship, MRSC partner reminds me a lot of LEUT East's Jarvis bay class. Also what is that missile next to the NSM on the first ship. I wanna say its some sort of ship based MLRS or rocket launcher but thats just a guess

The nice thing about a CEAFAR/CEAMOUNT-based solution is that you would be able to avoid the current APAR blind spot aft at low elevations. Various trade show mockups and drawings show things like a split six-face CEA, with two three-face triangles pointing at each other. Thus there is (with modern active phased arrays) the nominal ability to cover essentially 360deg with either triangular block, while only needing to stare 30deg off-axis when both are functional (as with a conventional hexagonal array).

You could then happily drop a long-range L-band radar (and maybe a tall mast for surface search, etc) atop the forward triangle, and put various carrier junk (TACAN, CCA, etc) on the after one.

I will happily draw a crappy mockup if this is not clear.

if you keep the APAR, you should heighten it a bit, that should eliminate most of the blind spot (or lower SMART-L, but that seems not that good an idea)
still, check the angles for where the structures block the radars, and where the deck edges do ;) only from that you can see if the setup really works

on the MRSC, shouldn't the D3 deck be splitted? it seems close enough to the waterline to make it create wave resistance if not creating actual water resistance.

@ Trojan: I drew some inspiration from that as well as the Sea Fighter concepts both BMT's and the actual prototype. There is indeed a naval MLRS up by the bits and pieces representing a navalized IMI Lynx which is capable of firing a whole cacophony of different rockets ranging from 122mm Grad ones all the way up-to 300mm EXTRA guided stuff and Delilah light cruise missiles. The original intent was to integrate them into the VLS but they'd have a pretty long minimum range if I did that so I went with using an actual launcher. I'm not sure if I'll mount the launcher on here but the MRSV/C will certainly be getting a pair.

@erik: it would be nice if there was an illustration to visualize. The sort of layout that you propose is much more amiable to me, namely because of how long I sat in paint trying to achieve a decent island set-up that didn't either look fugly as all hell or too high... My only reservation ability to SA guide SM-6 out to its effective range, I'd imagine seeing as CEAFAR/MOUNT is scalable this could be achieved by up-sizing the faces and boosting their transmitting power?

@ace: How so? Whilst it is rather low to the waterline it does still merge wit the two outer hulls quite low somewhat like the M-Ships crossed with a SWATH cat though looking at the recreational spaces either side of the embarked accommodation I suppose that I'd have to split those off from the actual rooms into the outer hulls for starters?

This Meko project (the upper picture) illustrates the two-deckhouse approach with CEAFAR.

Either deckhouse is able to maintain a limited 360deg view in a casualty mode, aside from the part of the horizon that is actually blocked by the other deckhouse. When both are intact and operational, the usual hexagonal layout is functionally present.

Plus, no more low-angle blind spots, and two spots to stick giant blocks of crap (eg SMART-L and Various Carrier Crap).
