Is it also on smartphone or pad that color seems almost black?
When i look at the three drawings on my i-pad, i hardly see the difference.
I still like the first one (on proper screen.....), so i still hesitate.

Pesonally I also like the middle one. It has a dark color, but is not too dark to show details.

I tend to go for lighter blacks on ships, more like a series of dark grays. 1) Keeps detail visible. 2) Adds sort of a "scale color" effect.

At small scales try about 2/3 of the way between white and blackest black for your actual "black". Range between neutral gray (50%) and 90% black or so. That leaves plenty of latitude for shadows and highlights.
