because an plane or an train gets maintenance when it's stopped. an ship gets maintenance underway.

Indeed, neither of the two are away from maintenance facilities for any period of time (with the slight exception of some locomotives being based further away from their home depots but even then maintenance can be and is done whilst they are not in operation.

What we're trying to drill into your head is that an unmanned ship still needs maintenance. Like I said, I like the idea of an unmanned vessel - it would be perfect for the littorals or as an escort vessel - but at the least it still needs to pull into depots for regular maintenance like any other ship, and likely would need tender vessels too. So these things need to be kept in mind.
