How is the LW-02 (or whatever that is...) meant to rotate, exactly? Is that VHF aerial waaaay off on one beam, or something?
Honestly i have no idea, but when I made the design I simply took the radar array from this drawing http://www.shipbucket.com/images.php?di ... jk%201.png
By the way... that would we mean we have to add Alvama to the credits
my bad.
I agree with the refitted refits though, looking good. :P

I'll be taking a look at the Floreal next. Then I'll finally get around to that Heavy Cruiser idea.

Flag wise for the 70's and so I'm thinking about either some sort of command ship or a landing ship/ small heli carrier type thingy...

Looking at CA Spear I see two problems:

1) No deck armor
2) Main Battery guns are not mount and hoist

Nice Leander refit.
I think if its built in there is no problems with the mortar and it should be nice and dry there. The ship looks far more powerful than any RN Leander ever did and has a full FFG range of capabilities apart from SAMs.

Ooh, deck armour, I'd forgotten that. I need to go back to the design anyway, take another look at her. Once I've done the Floreal.

You know, that's a really good point. Most threats are going to be sub or air based I imagine. The lack of SAMs is curious... But then it's got a focus on surface/submarine threats... we'll have to look to the Floreal for a good SAM fit. Leander can't do area defence, but it can cover itself. Still have to see what other escorts are still running from the 50's and 60's, maybe the Leanders will be well covered by older vessels.

I originally had NSSM in one of the refits but I was told it wasn't worth the costs and phalanx would be a better option considering the age of the ship and cost. I have no problems changing it back to NSSM if it's considered reasonable, but Thiel made a good argument for using phalanx's, they can be bolted on new ships when they arrive off the decommissioned Leanders.

I'm happy for maintaining phalanx. They're far too handy and we can stick them on the Floreals once we start Decomming the Leanders. Or the next gen vessels of course...
I'll look at a 60's AA escort at some point...

So after a lengthy, lengthy, lengthy period of absence, I have been dragged back by my erstwhile colleague. With some rather interesting ideas, for that matter.
1). 80's and up flagship could be a drone/helicopter equipped OPV or some such. A small, light ship with command and control facilities and a large deck (presumably aft.)
2) The company is really focused on its trade. Most of that is in its aircraft and bulk haulers. However, it could maintain a fleet of small fast ships, catamarans, for high value but bulky cargoes. When armed, could be used for traversing danger areas at high speed.
3) Year 200x long range OPV's as escorts to replace the aged leanders. Maybe looking at the black swans, maybe going overseas...

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

EDIT: 4) I'm thinking about a large US military cargo plane painted in company colours. Would a civilian model be better?

For non-oversized cargo the 747 just can't be beat - it dominates large global air trade because it's just that good, but it is being replaced with the 777, which is better.

For larger cargos (larger vehicles), Lockheed offered commercial versions of the C-141 and C-5, but both were turned down on fuel use costs. The MDD/Boeing MD-17 (commercial C-17) died because by the time it was around the thousand or so IL-76s and few dozen An-124s had the market cornered.
