FAA and Marine Aviation 1915-45
Paint schemes for carrier aircraft
1921-34: Overall LtGrey, yellow wings, tail in squadron/ship colors. It was also not uncommon for floatplanes assigned to Battleships and Cruisers to be painted in their own unique style provided they had the ship commanders permission to do so. The repainting costs came out of the ships operating budget, so that was the determining factor for most CO's. In a select few cases, well-to-do officers would pay for the repainting out of their own pockets.
1934-43: Fuselage Grey-Green, yellow wings (grey-green wings after 1940), undersides Sky Type S, tail either grey-green or squadron/ship colors
1941-46:
Continental Theater - Extra Dk Sea Grey/Dk Green, underside Sky Type S.
Equatorial Theater - Overall Dk Blue
(Note: My choice of aircraft is not up for debate. Period. Non-SB drawings on the sheet are merely placeholders until I do drawings of them.)
