The Esperos class torpedo boats were built in West Germany through the German War Reparations to Hellenic Kingdom. 12 vessels delivered, form 1960-1963. Initially they were identical with Klasse 140 with four 21' torpedo tubes. In early 1970's all were upgraded with Signaal M20 FCS, twin stern torpedo tubes for SST-4 torpedoes, twin quadruple SS-12 launchers and modified Bofors 40mm/70 guns with Breda magazine, early Lynceus IR electrooptic device plus Thunder V-SHORAD system (with 4 missiles on each Bofors, 2 either side).
Because of increased weight, engines were upgraded to Mercedes MB518C, each 3,600 hp maximum power (instead of 3,000 hp).
The Esperos class served about 40 years and retired in mid to late 1990's.
