Now I present a design started by myself but completed by Syzmo, the final design proposal for the Panzerschiffe for Sieran as it would have looked had it been completed to its original design and entered service with the SRN;

[ img ]

Instead the ship was completed by the Germans after its cancellation to a modified design with all German weapons replacing the original format of German main guns and Sieranian (and imported) secondary and AA guns. She was to see service during the Second World War in the Indian and Pacific oceans. After Germanys declaration of war upon the US, the ship sailed to Japan where she was transferred into IJN service but retaining her German crew.

It was in this capacity that she saw some action against her intended users during 1942-1943. She was modified during the course of the war by the Japanese but was sunk in harbour at Manila during a heavy US carrier raid. The ship was refloated but deemed unsuitable for the journey back to the Home Islands. At this time Japans war effort was flagging so the vessel was stripped of her guns and as much useful equipment before being scuttled as a breakwater just outside the harbour.

Her wreckage was scrapped in 1948.

Bridge looks bit odd for me, but generally very nice! :)

Really cool ship, Denodon. While I think the Germans would have finished her with a more German conning tower, I think the current version looks much better. ;)

Well this is the proposal design, not as she was completed. As completed the conning tower would likely look a bit different but still exist as it was partially constructed at the time of cancellation.

All credits go to Syzmo for the details from the basic superstructure up. Only the hull and a few other things are my work.

I think the main bridge needs some more details (some lines seems to be missing).
Interesting design...............

Well Syzmo and I worked a bit more on the Panzerschiffe proposal and here she is as she would have looked when in service in 1939 as the KMS Rheinland (drawing is still currently a WIP, will be updated);

[ img ]

Her construction had been altered after only the hull and basic superstructure had been completed. The hull remained in the slipyard for four months before it was decided to complete it to a 'Germanised' design for the Kreigsmarine. As the original plan had called for Sieran fitting the weapons after delivery, it was easy enough to install the more usual German secondary and Tertiary battery. The conning tower had only been partially completed but it was abandoned and replaced by a bridge design similar to the Deutschland class. Unlike those vessels, she was not modified with the newer 'atlantic bow' for fear her hull couldn't take the strain of the increased fore weight.

As stated in an earlier post, she was to see service during the Second World War in the Indian and Pacific oceans. After Germanys declaration of war upon the US, the ship sailed to Japan where she was transferred into IJN service but retaining her German crew. It was at about this time that she was taken into the shipyards at Kure for a refit, during which time she was fitted with a modified bow and superstructure, new radars and fire control systems, additional light AA weapons and numerous other alterations.

It was in this capacity that she saw some action against her intended users during 1942-1943. She was modified further during the course of the war by the Japanese but was sunk in harbour at Manila during a heavy US carrier raid.

I really like how you changed the secondary artillery to twin(?) turrets instead of the Deutschland's single mounts, though part of me wonders if that wouldn't require a slight "dip" into the superstructure, like several german battleships with twin 6" turrets had. The superstructure would probably have to be very thin to accomodate those turrets otherwise.

The superstructure around those guns is indeed scalloped to allow for their rotation as was designed for the original 120cm secondaries that the proposal had. The original design used duals as well however they were smaller and overlapped slightly thanks to the arrangement of the structure

Then we should be able to see it on the drawing. ;) Looking on for example the Bismarck, or any German BB of the era should give you a quite good reference.
