hmm, that might be true indeed.....
will look into other solutions. btw, what if I use emals? that would take less strenght from the deck, right?

Not really. They still need the same sized grove cut in the deck. A steam cat just takes more space underneath.

ok, back to the drawing board for that cat then....
EDIT: I found a solution.... I removed the long catapult, and made an long take-off ramp of it.

The long cat looks far longer than any I have seen on a real carrier. It's doesn't need to be that big. Take a look of some of Golly's Novgorod carrier top-views for some decent length catapults.

I have already removed it, I was still playing with it (and I am still)
it is now an takeoff ramp without catapult.

another new ship. this drawing originated from the quarrel between me and mitch about the holland class OPV. I already started fixing it, so I decided to use it for wingedheroes. now I have something interesting : a AU ship that looks more like the real thing on some points then the drawing that is in shipbucket.
this drawing is still WIP, and it lacks a lot of details, and some points still need fixing...
comments?

What do you need such a heavily armed small ship for? If memory serves most of the fighting in your scenario takes place across the Atlantic.
The Holland Class doesn't have the range to be used in that role and with all the additional weapons it'll be too expensive for territorial patrol duty.
Also, I doubt if you'll be able to fit the forward VLS where you have it. Assuming it's roughly the same scale as the harpoon, that's one deep hole you have to put into a hull that wasn't, OTL at least, build for it.

well, this ship is an completely new ship. the fuel tanks have expanded, and the structure was changed to receive that VLS. it is build for an similar role (and weapons fit) as the dutch M-frigates (escort and protection) , and they have only an slightly smaller displacement.

btw, the fighting area in my AU is moving, but the part the novel I am writing is about is mostly playing in the atlantic. that's why I talk about that mostly....

Damen Schelde.

It doesn't have the range at the necessary speeds to play escort in the Atlantic.
The lack of any ASW weapon is also going to be an issue.

How did you manage to increase fuel capacity, load it down with weapons and decrease the displacement yet retain the same hull?
And what did you sacrifice to gain the volume to fit it all.

Ships are usually designed with as much bunker capacity as can be fitted, since tanks are cheap, comparatively easily converted to other uses and because a ship with more range gives you more options and its easy to sell to the politicians.
