I like the ultra-thin swept-back mast.

Thanks. The mast is like the only stealth feature on a ship that's as stealthy as a brick.

The Hornet Class is a good design, but I think it needs modifications in funnel and armament/sensors. Please look in recent GB corvette designs in Shipbucket for ideas. My opinion is that Hornet is equivalent to NL Sigma Class, which is a modular design with versions from OPV to small frigate. There is in Shipbucket, I use it to my AU Nation ("Hellenian Kindom") as OPV for my Coastguard. You can check my versions of Sigma Class to.

Wow...I lost track of this a while ago...Things have been crazy the last year or so. I'll see if I can get back on this...

Thanks, guys. I'm back. It's actually been about 13 months...I posted like twice after my daughter was born, and haven't been around. I've got to do some practice drawings to get myself back in the rhythm, Maybe I'll post them in the Beginner's forum.

My first design since my return!

The Defiant class Frigate:

[ img ]

Specifications:

Length: 478 feet

Beam: 61 Feet

Draft: 22 feet

Crew: 150

Sensors: (more to be added)
APAR

SMART-L

AN/SQS-53C Sonar

Armament:

1 x Mk. 45 Mod 4 5"/62 Caliber Lightwieght gunmount

1 x 64 cell Mk. 41 Vertical Launch System
[*]Tomahawk Missile
[*]Standard Missile
[*]Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile
[*]VL ASROC

8 x Harpoon SSM

2 x Goalkeeper CIWS

2-6 x GAU-19 .50 BMG Machine Guns

2 x Mk. 32 SVTT

Aircraft:
Facilities for up to 2 SH-60 Seahawks, or 3 MH-65 Dauphin, or 4 RWUAVs, or 1 SH-60/SH-65 and 2 RWUAVs

Small Craft Carried:

2-4 x 11-meter RIBs deployed from stern bay

Propulsion:

2 Shafts, COGAS, 2 LM-2500+ Gas Turbines and 2 Westinghouse Steam Turbines. 80,000 SHP

Performance:

30+ knots

Range:

4500 miles at 20 Knots.

Notes: Still a work in progress, need some help with the sensors. I'm still not too familiar with the european sensors, and I don't want to Noobmash a bunch of incompatible sensors onto the ship. I did, however, include the American weapons systems based on reading that the De Zeven Provincien (sp?) Class uses APAR and fires Standard and ESSM.

The Boat Deck is below the flight deck, with a mission module bay below the hangar, and extending forward to just aft of the funnel. An overhead crane is used to move the boats and modules around.

I remember taking some criticism for COGAS with my FFG-62 design, but I chose it for this because I felt COGAG would shorten the range, and CODOG, CODAG, or CODLAG configurations wouldn't provide enough speed.

God, that bow is way to sharp.

I could cut some useless mass off this thing if I blunt it probably? Probably cut ten feet off the length?

Edit: Let's try 30 feet...Cut the bow down, got a new OA length of 448 feet.

[ img ]

Definately more Frigate length, with a more reasonable bow. I feel like I should be surprised to fit a Mk. 41 and a 5" gun on a ship shorter than a Perry, BUT, the Mk. 41, even the 64 cell, is still a compact system (21 x 28, if I remember correctly), and a ship much smaller than this DID carry an 8" gun at one point.

Here's what I think I need or am missing...And need help with, if you gentlemen and ladies might be so kind...

Surface Search radar

Satcom gear

Electronic Warfare Suite (Wanted to use SLQ-32, but not sure if APAR comes with one, or if I can mix and match like that.)

Possible increase in draft? Not sure, given the beam is almost the same as a Burke, with a much shorter hull.
