A single nuclear hull doesn't make much sense. A handful of Burkes makes a great deal of sense.

Right. I still think you need something like a Meko 360 or a KDX2 to fill out the rest of the fleet at a lower cost than 10 Burkes.

Bumping this because I want to keep working on it.

I'm going to consider creating a North Point indigenous destroyer design based off the fictional 1988 Flight III AB on page 1. Going to keep the Aegis system.

Going to just start chipping away slowly at the workload to hopefully get it done within a large timeframe, though not sure how much time my new job (with HP) is going to allow for this kind of stuff.

Your country seems very well thought out
However your army uses mostly outdated equipment and your air force at least in my opinion is bit over-optmistic in strength but i may be wrong

I have no numbers for my air force, believe it to be quite small but capable.

As for outdated equipment for the army, some would disagree. ;) Just because it's old doesn't mean it's not effective. ;) North Point's army has elan, that's all. You won't find any coyote tan, MultiCam, high-speed-low-drag, or angular foregrips on rifles in this country...

Here's why:

1. The country is similar to Switzerland. There's a professional regular army, but all males must serve 2 years in the military after high school graduation. After this term of service, they remain members of the Guard Force (similar to a national guard or militia, but hopefully without the David Koresh association that term often brings up...) until they turn 30. They can remain Guard Force members as long as they choose to, though, but must attend yearly refresher training. This leads to a "rifle behind every blade of grass" nation that will hopefully be difficult to occupy.

2. The military is armed with rifles, not 250m carbines. The ability to kill or incapacitate at 800m+ is paramount. Carbines are issued to drivers, artillerists, and other second line troops (as was their original intent). I look to the Australian experience in Vietnam as support for using 7.62mm battle rifles during close quarters jungle combat as well.

3. Vehicles are vehicles -- what a HMMWV of 2012 does, a Jeep of 1942 can do similarly and more cheaply. Jeeps, Land Rovers, Hiluxes, and Land Cruisers as standard military utility vehicles and tracked Bren universal carriers for utility transport in the jungle areas (where roads are less passable). Unimog trucks and M35s for general transport. There is no pressing need for mine protection since NP's military doesn't execute counter-insurgency missions. Plus the old stuff is just cooler.

4. Armor is mostly "outdated" late-mark Chieftains, a few Leopard 1A1s, M551 Sheridans, M113 APCs and similar. NP first and foremost doesn't have the budget for a large, modern tank force, and second doesn't have the geography (except in the two central landmasses) that would really support large tank battles. More emphasis is placed on the individual soldier and his rifle.

5. The Army page incorrectly shows an aviation contingent when in fact this should be rolled in with the North Point Flying Corps (air force). That section hasn't been updated in a while, but I think my plans were to use Puma and Cougar helicopters as heavy transport, MD-500s as recon/scout, Alouette IIIs as light attack/utility, and the later model AH-1 Cobras as attack helicopters.

6. The main overarching goal of the ground forces is to make the country as unappealing a target for occupation as possible. This is accomplished by ensuring that the regular/reservist military is highly-trained in riflery (i.e., a rifleman with a rack-grade FN FAL, using military-issue ball ammunition and iron sights, can hit a man-sized target at 500 yards without difficulty). The other branches of the army, such as armor and artillery, are relatively underdeveloped as such.

Very good points. A couple of things though
1. Does North Point have the budget to upgrades its tanks as the Leopard 1 and Chieftains I'm pretty sure can be upgraded quiet well
2. There are multiple modern battle rifles that you can use instead of the FN FAL that combine the best of both worlds
3. For the Air Force I just think that B-1 and B-52s sound like a little much as only two nations today even use intercontinental bombers.
Its your au though and you seem to have things the way you like it/want it

1. The upgraded version of the Chieftain is the primary tank in service, with the Leopard 1A1s filling gaps etc.

2. Like what? I considered the SCAR-H but saw more utility using a rifle that has been in service for 50 years, owing to familiarity with the design and its battle-proven ruggedness. The SCAR-H or M14 EBR can't claim the years of good service offered by the FN. The G3 family is perhaps a more rugged design, but due to the better handling characteristics, polish, and mystique of the FN, I chose it instead. The M14 rifle is a great design but IMO too finicky for prolonged field use. The FN provides the best middle ground between the two.

I will not issue "tacticool" weapons like the SCAR-H or M14 EBR as the amount of plastic frankly disgusts me, and the designs don't necessarily do anything better than the FN platform.

North Point's FN service rifle has been upgraded over the years to incorporate a number of new features. I can't remember them all off the top of my head, but the ones I remember are as follows: aluminum alloy lower receiver, SLR-style selector switch, thin front sight post, Holland rear sight, polymer furniture, removal of carry handles and sling swivels, and grenade launching sight. The standard-issue rifle of 2012 would probably be the folding-stock para model with a carbine length barrel. Throw a DSA scope mount on top with an ACOG 4x or similar combat optic and you have an incredibly capable rifle which, in the hands of a trained rifleman, can be devastating to 800 yards.

3. The B-1s and B-52s were on the list of things to delete.

I appreciate hearing criticism and try to defend my ideas as best I can, but I am of course open to change things if my reasoning is not good.

:o ohhh now see i didn't now you had upgraded your FALs that changes things a bit  and the rifle I was thinking of was the HK417 (btw are you FALs new build?)I'm gonna guess though that the HK will fit more into the SCAR category though. :)
the bren gun while I admit it does have an elan to it 8-) , its a bit outdated in my opinion especially if its using 303. when the rest of your army is using 7.62 (the bren can be converted though and in this form it soldiered on into the 90s with the British Army and you can probably get away with still using it)
if it ain't broke don't fix it I guess
and i hope my last sentence in my prior post didn't come off the wrong way there was no insult or anything intended with it (now that i read it again it may have sounded that way)

Colo, please tell me you have the Para Version of the FN-FAL drawn? Cause that would be purely awesome, as what I did with your original drawing was to "tacti-cool" it, but I agree, nothing beats a well built rifle over the plastech shit of today.

Colo, why do you still have the Fremantle Class? The Armidale Class is considerably better as a a successor!
